Heerhugowaard bicycle crossing N242

bicycle crossing of highway N242 Heerhugowaard

The location for this crossing was challenging due to various space constraints: a canal, busy highway, businesses and homes, subsoil infrastructures, integration of busstops and possible future widening of the highway. First we did a feasibility study resulting in the decision that a bridge was possible and affordable.

We designed an elegant and user friendly low-maintenance high strength concrete bridge. The ramps are optimised for cyclists and maintenance vehicles. The design was set up to ensure minimal impact on the flow of highway traffic during construction.

This project was done by Maurits Lopes Cardozo with ipv Delft. Maurits role: concept and design lead.
Scope: feasibility study, concept design, client support during realisation.
